Headline findings
- The value band is $400–$1,300. Serious home and light-trade welding in Australia is served by multi-process machines in this band; below $250 the market is dominated by gasless-entry units with real capability limits.
- Pulse capability crossed the $1,000 line. The Weldclass FURY 205 MPST Pulse was observed at $997 — pulse MIG, previously a premium feature, now inside the mainstream band.
- AC/DC flagships cluster at $3,000–$4,000. UNIMIG's ENVY Multi 230/250 AC/DC and TIG 230 define the enthusiast ceiling before industrial-brand pricing (Kemppi, Lincoln, ESAB) begins.
- Entry price observation moved during the quarter. The UNIMIG Viper Multi 135 — the perennial best-value entry multi-process — was observed dropping from $399 to $349 at Sydney Tools, the largest tracked movement of the quarter.
- Helmets: the $100–$200 sweet spot is real. Verified auto-darkening lids span $25 (basic) to $2,991 (3M Speedglas PAPR), but the credible workhorse tier — 4-sensor, true-colour — sits at $149–$199 across brands.

Methodology
Prices are observed — not RRP. We collect listed prices from Australian retailers via SERP product data and store each observation with its source and date. Every model page on WeldBase shows the retailer and date of its latest observation. Prices are GST-inclusive as displayed. Outliers (>45% from the model's prior observed price) and second-hand listings are excluded by rule. The full live index is public at /prices/ and via the prices API.
Independent cross-verification: tracked prices are re-checked weekly against live web sources by a search-grounded verification engine, and every safety claim on this site is re-verified monthly — with results logged and human-reviewed. The live verification rate is published at /api/accuracy.
Limitations: observed listing price is not transaction price; availability varies by region; bundle kits are noted but normalised to machine-class pricing where flagged.
